The speculation about the recent awards show was significant, especially after host Geoff Keighley posted an enigmatic image of a strange statue. The question has now been solved. Larian Studios is working on a fresh Divinity game.

Revealed to be Divinity, the game was debuted with a bold trailer packed with striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the literal unleashing of hell.

Not the Expected Sequel

Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. The studio clarified that a follow-up to its beloved RPGs is not being worked on now.

Nevertheless, the developer described this new Divinity as a evolution of the core franchise. This phrasing suggests that the team is likely crafting a real-time experience as opposed to another turn-based title. For now, this is speculation, as only a teaser video is available.

What Makes Divinity Special

The Divinity series is widely praised and arguably it pioneered the contemporary revival of complex computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for rich lore, choice-driven narratives, and flexible progression—elements that recently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is classic fantasy, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency granted to the player.

Where many modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is brimming with niche playthroughs that are viable by choosing a particular class or origin with a specific history of choices.

The series is also notoriously open-ended, allowing players to improvise both in story and combat. Virtually all objectives can be solved in a variety of manners, often in unexpected fashion.

• You might find an answer because you remembered something a dog told you.
• Or, you could overcome an obstacle by using the world itself in a clever way.

More to Come

It is precisely these elements that lead fans and critics to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games in history. Now, players can look forward to another adventure in this esteemed franchise.
